Fine Quality French or English Well Figured Solid Burr Walnut and Ebony Ladies or Gents Travelling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and of generous proportions. Last quarter of the Nineteenth Century, possibly earlier.
The frontal hinged area opening at an angle to reveal a fitted interior to include a pen tray flanked by two compartments holding glass ink bottles with ornate polished brass covers above a writing area with tooled burgundy leather with gold leaf inlaid decoration.
The back hinged area opening to reveal an ornately carved mahogany sectional area for letters storage. The main outer body of superb walnut with brass stringing, Greek Key inlay and brass quadrant mounts at the edges.
Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich honey colour, with a replaced leather in writing area which is nicely done. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock is present. Please not key does not work and is for display only, crystal ink bottle are original, nice original firm hinges. There is a small loss to brass stringing at right side, not easy to detect.
